GM just had too many brands, and if you ask me, they still do. Do they really need both Buick & Cadillac? Both Chevy & GMC?
Other than the G8 and Solstice, Pontiac wasn’t much of a loss anyway. The rest of their lineup at the time of their axing consisted of Chevy clones & captive imports.
If you want to blame someone, blame whoever it was that decided Pontiac would put performance cars on the back burner. Lutz may have contributed to it, but Pontiac was already headed in that direction.
@GOD higher range LM are faster for top speed, cause the track is ridiculously long, f1 are better at shorter tracks

F1 are faster in twisty circuits with less weight, more downforce and faster 0-60 speeds, engines only last 3 hours, lmp1 is faster in a straight because they are designed for la sartre so they need to get a top speed as high as possible but also be able to last 24h, also le mans race cars were even faster back in the sixties because the straight is interupted 2 times just to get the top speed down
